Peconic Land Trust receives grant for shellfish preserve
NEW YORK STATE - The Peconic Land Trust received the Brine Family Trust grant for restoration of Shellfisher Preserve and Reel Point.
The general goal of the PLT has been to manage the site for shellfish aquaculture research, education, and as an opportunity for small-scale aquaculture companies to have access to the waterfront. The grant for the restoration of Shellfisher Preserve will cover the roadway repairs and native vegetation restoration of the property and assist with the construction. It will also help stabilize Reel Point by enabling the Peconic Land Trust to install sand fencing along the seaward base of the dune plus beach grass.
The Trust’s mission is to conserve Long Island’s working farms, natural lands, and heritage for our communities now and in the future.
The Brine Family Charitable Trust 2007 Summer Grant program for the East End of Long Island was created to fund projects on Long Island that serve to sustain The East End’s biodiversity, recover its endangered species, and maintain its natural ecosystem.
