Print This Page EU ban on Pak fish, shrimps import causes $150m loss
PAKISTAN - A loss to the tune of $ 150 million foreign exchange has been caused to Pakistan till the month of October due to ban imposed on the import of fish and shrimps from Pakistan by EU countries since January 2007, it is reliably learnt. It is said that EU de-notified the import of fish and shrimps from Pakistan effective from January, 2007 on the grounds that the fish processing units operating in Karachi Fish Harbour were not up to mark and that the boats used to catch fish and shrimps from the sea are also not insulated.
A high-level source attached with Sindh government told The Post on Tuesday that in the meantime all the requisite measures have been taken to make the fish processing units up to the mark in accordance with the required standards.
