Danes arrive with much to show

SOUTH AFRICA - Denmark will present a pavilion comprising seven companies at the forthcoming Fish Africa/Aquaculture Africa 2007 Exhibition, which runs at Cape Town‘s International Convention Centre from 24-26 October

This two-yearly event, combining fishing and aquaculture technology, is now established as the main point of access to the growing Southern African market for international companies.

Denmark’s fishing industry suppliers have already won a number of clients in Southern Africa and 2007 exhibits range from fishing and trawl gear to refrigeration plant and also plant for marine and freshwater aquaculture – which is growing rapidly in the region.

Aquaculture specialist Fishpro is well established in Africa, where its Malawi tilapia project is now up to a 1200-tons annual production, and planned for 3000 tons in two years. A new project is underway in Zambia and the company is conducting studies on a planned Kob (Cape Salmon) project in Durban, as well as a projected catfish operation to form part of a big agricultural irrigation scheme near Johannesburg.

Fishpro’s Ole Kierke-gaard believes that Africa has ‘huge potential’ for aquaculture.
