Print This Page Fish exports to Australia decline
FIJI - Though the export of tuna and other fish from Fiji is growing in the global market, it has been shrinking in Australia.In 2004, Australia's share in Fiji's total export of tuna and other fish was as high as 21.38 per cent - equivalent to $6.23 million compared to the total export earnings of $29.15 million from agromarine export commodities.
Compared to 2005, tuna and fish exports to Australia dropped to 14.46 per cent ($4.71 million) and as low as 0.64 per cent last year equivalent to $0.23 million.
Export earnings from total agromarine export products totalled $32.55 million in 2005 and $36.25 million last year.
Sydney-based Fiji Trade Commissioner Jaindra Kumar says filleted fish exports to Australia compared to its global exports earned $1.01 million in 2004, $0.75 million in 2005 and $1.37 million last year.
