Coalition uses fishing funding to attack Garrett
14 November 2007AUSTRALIA - Federal Fisheries Minister Eric Abetz has launched the Coalition's fisheries policy with a multi-million dollar commitment to aquaculture and commercial and recreational fishers.
Senator Abetz launched the policy in Port Lincoln on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, with the package including $10 million to develop a national aquaculture strategy.
There will also be $4 million to establish an Environmental Recognition Fund and an extra $15 million for recreational fishing programs over three years.
Senator Abetz says Labor's environment spokesman Peter Garrett has a record of wanting to close down key sectors of the fishing industry.
"I look at Peter Garrett's track record and it's a spooky one for the fishing sector, both commercial and recreational," he said.
