Now, IT course for extension officers in aquaculture

INDIA - Scientists at the Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture here have embarked on a unique mission to empower block-level extension officers about the role of IT in aquaculture sector.

The general perception is that information and communication technology would not only help the officers use the medium for widest dissemination of aquaculture- related information but help research institutes like CIFA reach out to fishermen in every corner for the overall development of the sector.

About 20 extension officers from Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Orissa are attending a training course on this aspect, spanning over 10 days. It kicked off on Thursday.

Christened as ‘new initiatives in aquaculture extension,’ the programme would sensitise professionals in new approaches of communication and familiarise them with the procedures of application of IT in aquaculture extension.

Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, is sponsoring it. Inaugurating the course, dean, extension education of OUAT S.C.Mishra noted that a responsive and vibrant extension would help usher a ‘blue revolution,’ much like it did in achieving self-sufficiency in food grain production.
