Print This Page Crews collect 775,000 salmon eggs
US - The state's fisheries department exceeded its goal by collecting 775,000 salmon eggs from Lake Oahe this fall. The eggs will be hatched and about 235,000 salmon will be stocked back into Oahe next year. Salmon don't reproduce naturally in the lake.
The Game, Fish and Parks Department built the Whitlocks Bay spawning station to collect eggs from salmon, but the lake level is too low to use it. Instead, crews collect female salmon in the lake by using a small dose of electric current that momentarily stuns them and they rise to the surface.
