Print This Page Rules on fish virus made permanent
US - The Natural Resources Board has made rules to fight VHS permanent.
The rules prohibit out-of-state boaters from bringing water into Wisconsin in equipment. All boaters must drain their live wells and bilges before leaving any state water.
Anglers can’t remove live fish from any state water, although bait harvesters can do it with a permit.
The rules are designed to combat viral hemorrhagic septicemia, better known as VHS. They’ve been in effect on an emergency basis since early November.
