Print This Page Exporters Confused by Russian Seafood Ban
VIET NAM - An official from the National Fisheries Assurance and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiquaved) said the Russian quarantine authority’s ban imposed on 1 January should now have been lifted. |
| Confusion surrounds a Russian decision to impose a ban on imports from three Vietnamese seafood businesses. |
Nafiquaved director Nguyen Tu Cuong said the ban was lifted Thursday (3 January) after the Vietnamese companies proved they could meet quality standards.
However, Russian authorities have provided no paperwork confirming the ban had been overturned.
Cuong said Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control (Rosselkhoznadzor) had applied restrictions on imports from the three Vietnamese firms and 23 other companies from Argentine, China, Norway and the US.
The ban by one of its major customers outraged the local seafood export industry.
“It’s unbelievable! We do not understand why Russia refused our members and what the criteria were for the refusal,” said.
