Aquaculture Project Demonstrates Progress
BRUNEI - The Minister of Industry and Primary Resources has visited Fisheries Department facilities to monitor the progress of a tiger prawn and grouper rearing project.A Ministerial delegation inspected the Broodstock Development Centre at Serasa. Hjh Hasnah Ibrahim, the director of Fisheries, Dr George Chamberlain, technical director of the Integrated Aquaculture International (IAI) from the United States, and other senior officers from the fisheries department and IAI team members were on hand to show the visitors around the unit and discuss its management and operations.
The project is demonstrating that Brunei's shrimp aquaculture industry has made tremendous progress. With the assistance from the experts from IAI it is proving successful with many economic opportunities.
The project is also helping the Seiwa Corporation Sdn Bhd to increase its rostris shrimp fries production. At present, it produces about 10 to 16 million fries a month, enough for the industry's requirement and also for export.
