INDIA - The Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA)is supporting an initiative to increase employment through aquaculture in Kendrapada through an awareness-cum-training programme.
A national rural employment guarantee scheme (NREGS) has been launched in 19 districts including Kendrapara. A portable hatchery, provided and installed by CIFA in Tanar village under this project, would be of immense benefit. Seeds of commercially important fish at a moderate cost would be available, said the district fishery officer.
CIFA director, Dr N Sarangi has outlined the importance of pisciculture in job creating and CIFA is doing much to encourage it, says reports in The Statesman. Increased aqua and pisciculture activities would aid the economy here and also help to reduce the extent of nutrition related disorders among local people.
