Marine Hatchery Training for Philippines

PHILIPPINES - The first training course in marine fish hatchery practice has been established in the Philippines.

The training course is being fully funded by the Australia Centre for International Agriculture Research (ACIAR) in cooperation with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center's Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD).

According to news service The News Today the course will allow the transfer of marine fish production technologies developed in the Philippines and Indonesia to hatchery operators. It will help them to diversify production into marine fish species, such as grouper and better match market demands.

The training course will disseminate technologies developed by various institutes and projects in the Asia-Pacific region. It will be mainly focused on small-scale hatchery systems that can be used for multiple species, including barramundi, seabass and groupers. Part of the course will also demonstrate how technology can be developed to suit medium and large-scale enterprises.
