Print This Page Great Opportunities for Fish Farming in Iceland?
ICELAND - A new Icelandic study, presented yesterday, on the behavioral patterns of cod in Arnarfjördur fjord in the West Fjords, shows that there are great opportunities for fish farming in Icelandic fjords.
During the study, cod was fed with capelin and as a result the fish remained close to the feeding station in schools where it could be caught easily, ruv.is reports.
The study was presented by ichthyologist Björn Björnsson at a conference about cod in Icelandic waters in Hótel Loftleidir in Reykjavík, which ends today.
If successful, fish farming could be a solution to the problems fishing villages are facing in relation to the cut in the cod fishing quota.
