Israeli Fingerling Prices Soar After Cold Kills Half St Peters Production

Israel's recent bout of cold weather has destroyed 25,000 St. Peters fish fingerlings, the equivalent of 50 per cent of the annual harvest of the fish. The conditions also claimed 4,000 tons of full grown fish which has spike consumer prices by up to 50 per cent, says HAARETZ.com.

Fish farmers in the Beit She'an Valley, who produce 80 per cent of all the state's St. Peters fish have been hit the hardest. Damage in the Beit area has been estimated at NIS 60 million, while the overall fish market has suffered an estimated NIS 100 million loss.
