Investor Beats Path for Sustainable Production

SCOTLAND - New opportunities in sustainable aquaculture is the focus for successful Sutherland salmon farmer Loch Duart, after private equity company Capricorn Investment Group (CIG) took a stake in the business.

CIG is said to have invested an undisclosed sum, with the size of its shareholding also being kept private, write Keith Findlay in the Press and Journal.

A statement from Scourie-based Loch Duart said that the company is building on strong financial performance and growing market demand with this alliance.

Managing director Nick Joy told the Press and Journal he was thrilled to have found a business partner who shared the same values and concerns about the environment.

Last October, Loch Duart unveiled plans to start commercial production of sea urchins, which are considered a delicacy in Europe, as well as seaweed for the cosmetics industry.

The company produces about 3,600 tonnes of farmed salmon a year, which it sells to leading restaurants and retailers at home and abroad.
