Perona Farms Sells Salmon Division
NEW JESRSEY — World renowned Perona Farms smoked salmon has been sold, writes Stephen J Novak in The NJ Herald. Two groups will take over the production and marketing of the premium salmon product, which will be distributed under the name 'Golden Harbor'.Mark Avondoglio, co-owner of Perona Farms announced the agreement this week.
Perona Farms restaurant division is unaffected by the change, but the Perona Farms Food Specialties Division — a 5,000-square-foot production plant on Andover Sparta Road — will be rented out to Sedna, a major seafood supplier for Whole Foods Market, a retailer of natural and organic foods.
Sedna will use the same facilities and recipe as Perona Farms, and has hired "almost all" of the restaurant's salmon production employees. Avondoglio said because of that, Sedna's salmon will be "of the same quality that we have been producing for years."
Avondoglio said the restaurant's decision to get away from salmon production — a venture started by his brother Kirk Avondoglio, Perona Farms' executive chef, in 1991 — will allow it "to have a more concentrated approach on the fast-growing restaurant and catering side of the business."
