Fisheries Policy to Benefit from Provincial Funding
CANADA- Newfoundland and Labrador's provincial government has announced a $10,000 contribution to the Municipalities fisheries committee. It will enable continued assistance and advisory work on the region's fisheries policy and the Fishing Industry Renewal Strategy.Reports in The Telegram say the funding will assist the committee in facilitating meetings with fishing industry representatives throughout the province for the purposes of developing options for policy positions and advocacy activities.
Officials from the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture will meet regularly with the committee to provide advice on these options, and to receive feedback on the current fisheries activities in government.
“The fishery is an essential part of the rural fabric of our province,” said MNL President Graham Letto. “Since 2005, MNL has taken a proactive role in the rebuilding of the fishery by establishing a fisheries committee which is comprised of representatives from the fishing industry throughout the province.
