Manitowoc to Host Fish Farming Conference

The annual event, which attracts current and prospective fish farmers, will be at the at the Holiday Inn in the town.

Fish farming, is the fastest growing segment of agriculture around the world. And Wisconsin’s aquaculture industry is a player in the expanding global marketplace.

The event draws researchers, veterinarians, experts and the people who are interested in fish farming. The keynote lunch speaker will be Bill Bonzheim, Director of Seafood, Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc.

Participants will look at how Wisconsin’s aquaculture industry currently competes in the world market, faces the challenges of economic viability and environmental sustainability, and rises to the threat of new diseases such as Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS).

Speakers and business people from Wisconsin and around the country will discuss market trends, uncover farm programs for aquaculturists, and highlight advances in technology and innovative culture methods.

Topics other than business will include a fish cooking seminar and demonstration; a judged Aquaculture Poster Contest, open to all Wisconsin high schools.

Conference registration is $100 for Wisconsin Aquaculture Association members; per person; $130 for non-members. Concessions are available for group bookings and students. Daily rates are $70 for Friday or $60 Saturday and there is a separate charge for the pre-conference trout workshop of $15.
