Guatemalan Tilapia Project gets €500
MALTA - Delicata Wines have donated €500 (Lm214.65) to the Guatemalan Charity Fund. It will be used to help fund a fish farming project for Tilapia productionThe donation was based on the sale of every bottle of Delicata wine sold in the last few months of 2007 in Café Jubilee outlets in Valletta, Gzira and Victoria and at Otters Restaurant in Marsalforn, says a report in the Times of Malta.
The fund was initially set up to help a young Gozitan missionary in Guatemala develop an internet centre at the school where he works. This was quickly achieved and Café Jubilee then agreed to work on Project Tilapia. This involves the development of a fish farm that will help the local community in a number of ways, said Anthony Scicluna, of Café Jubilee.
The most obvious benefit is the creation of an economically-viable workplace that will help the community financially and, in addition, introduce a new high-protein food item into their diet.
