Developer Opts for Fish Farming

According to the Glaveston Daily News, Nguyen has been pondering the development of a fish farm on his English Bayou property since last year. The project would be replacement for initial plans to build a 96-unit condominium project and a 40-slip marina, which has been rejected by the city council rejected.

But Nguyen has decided to bide time, waiting out his opponents, who feared the project would create traffic and other problems. At the English Bayou property, Nguyen is exercising a permit by the US Army Corps of Engineers to create 27,000 square feet of wetlands, which are ecosystems essential to marine life.

Because Nguyen wants to reclaim some land from English Bayou for future development, the corps permits require him to create new wetlands. Nguyen owns the 55 acres of land submerged under English Bayou, which was dredged to build the island’s protective seawall.
