Catfish Feed Deliveries Down 58 Percent on Last Year
US - Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during March 2008 was 16,973 tons, down 58 percent from March 2007, but up significantly from the previous month.
Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 16,491 tons, down 57 percent from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 482 tons, down 77 percent from the corresponding month a year ago.
March feed delivered to Mississippi catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 6,590 tons, down 61 percent from last year. Mississippi accounted for 40 percent of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to US farmers.
The other major States with catfish feed deliveries for foodsize fish in March and their comparison to the previous year were: Alabama with 5,224 tons, down 44 percent; Arkansas with 1,302 tons, down 80 percent; and Louisiana with 359 tons, down 81 percent from last year.
