Print This Page Healthy Eating Boosts Irish Seafood Sales
IRELAND - A total of 27 companies are exhibiting in the Bord Iascaigh Mhara pavilion at the European Seafood Exhibition in Brussels this week reflecting the growing demand for seafood in the country.
Last year sales of Irish seafood rose by six per cent to €806 million compared to the €778 million in 2006.
Last year Ireland also exported €360 million in seafood products.
Bord Iascaigh Mhara believes the rise in trade is being pushed by consumer demand for healthy eating.
And this week BIM chief executive Jason Whooley told the Irish Examiner: "Clearly, the consumer is becoming increasingly aware of the health and well-being benefits of seafood and this is a significant reason for the growth in consumption."
