Humboldt Honours Announced

US - Humboldt State University will conduct dedications in early May to commemorate outstanding individual contributions to the university and the community.

Emeritus professor Dr. George H. Allen will be honored with the naming of the George Allen Ichthyology Laboratory in the Wildlife and Fisheries Building. The late Michael G. Scott, a fisheries biologist and HSU alumnus (1975), will be memorialised with the dedication of the Wilma M. Scott Conference Room in the same building.

Dr. Allen was recruited to Humboldt State College in 1956 after the departure of professor Ernie Salo. He met a pressing need for the teaching of ichthyology, a course required of all fisheries majors and a component of the curriculum for wildlife and biology majors. Although not trained as an ichthyologist, he worked hard to learn the subject and develop an outstanding course. Dr Allen was also instrumental in developing and building the HSU Fish Collection.
