Top Issues, Top Agenda at Irish Shellfish Conference
IRELAND - Minister of State, John Browne will be at the Irish Shellfish Association conference next month.
The event, which takes place on 15 May in at the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport Country Mayo, will address key issues affecting the Irish shellfish industry.
The conference will open with a session on three major issues for the shellfish sector:
- Licensing
- The Shellfish Waters Directive
- The National Development Programme for Aquaculture.
Updates from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will be given. The afternoon session has been dedicated to technical advances and marketing. Topics will include: shellfish markets in the EU; the views of French shellfish customers; opportunities for investment in Western Norway; the effect of alien species on Irish shellfish; classification of shellfish waters under the new Good Practice Guide and eco-labelling.
