Conference Discusses Past and Future for New Zealand Industry

NEW ZEALAND - The New Zealand Seafood Industry Conference 2008 takes place this week at Te Papa from 14-16 May.

The conference will discuss a broad range of topics from biosecurity and exploiting high value markets to developing the aquaculture market and the latest legislation controlling aquaculture.
The speakers include:

  • Roger Edwards, Executive Officer for the South Australia Rock Lobster Advisory Council (SARLAC);
  • Vin Gannon, CEO of the Victorian Abalone Divers’ Association Inc (VADA);
  • Malcolm Haddon, Resource Modeller at the Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute;
  • Wayne Helgason, President of the Area "A" Crab Fishery, British Columbia, Canada;
  • David Hughes, Emeritus Professor of Food Marketing, Imperial College, London and Visiting Professor at the University of Kent Business School and the Royal Agricultural College, UK;
  • Dr Stephen Mayfield, Abalone Sub-Programme Leader, SARDI Aquatic Sciences, Adelaide, South Australia;
  • Dr Craig Mundy, Research Group Leader for Abalone at the Marine Research Laboratories, Tasmanian Aquaculture and Fisheries Institute (TAFI), Hobart; and
  • Dr Grimur Valdimarsson, Director of the Fish Products and Industry Division of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization, at its Rome headquarters.
