Print This Page Fish Farmers Fail to Meet EU Quota
UGANDA - Uganda has failed to meet its European Union quota of 60,000 tonnes of frozen and chilled fish fillets annually.
Prosie Kikabi, the Uganda Investment Authority investment executive, told All Africa that it had missed the quota because of limited fishing on the lakes and the illegal export of immature fish to the regional markets.
"The sector is also riddled with high investment costs exacerbated by inadequate capital due to lack of access to finance and lack of technical knowledge on aquaculture husbandry," Kikabi said during a fish farmers symposium at the Uganda Manufacturers Association Conference Hall recently.
