Thieves Raid Shrimp Farms in Mekong Delta
VIET NAM - Shrimp farms in the south of Viet Nam have become the target for thieves.Farms in the Mekong Delta have seen their stocks stolen over night by gangs, who have evaded the farms' security measures.
According to ThanhnienNews, the organised thieves carry out their raids on motorbikes. While one part of the gang breaks into teh farms another will harvest the shrimps and another part of teh gang has been assigned as the look out.
The thieves are breaking in through metal fencing and sprinkling feed on teh ponds to attract the shrimps so they can harvest them.
Nguyen Tri Thuc, the managing director of Duyen Hai Aquaculture Company, which owns a farm with more than 500 hectares in Bac Lieu, told ThanhnienNews that the company is a regular victim of shrimp-stealers.
Thuc said the company’s security guards have discovered the thieves several times but have been attacked by them.
Now many farms in the area have hire security guards and guard dogs to protect the farms.
