Mozambique Turns to Aquaculture to Replace Imports
The Council of Ministers is to create the National Institute for Development of Aquaculture (Inaqua), which will be responsible for promotion, extension, management and administration of aquaculture, according to the government spokesman Luís Covane.
Mozambique has around 258,000 hectares for development of aquaculture in the interior, and 33,000 beside the sea, under 10 per cent of which is currently in use, as well as 2,700 kilometres of coastline.
According to the Chinese official economic reporting service Macauhub, the Mozambique Council of Ministers believes it unacceptable that Mozambique should continue to import fish in such quantities, and a more ambitious attitude is needed for the deficit to be reduced.
