Sustainably-raised Shrimp at Fancy Food Show
US - Blue Horizon Organic Seafood Company is to promote its ecologically friendly concepts and products at the 54th Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City.
The company that sells frozen seafood products through retail stores in the US and Canada said it fosters relationships with local fishermen and family farms to source USDA Certified Organic ingredients and antibiotic/hormone-free, sustainably-raised "clean" seafood.
Blue Horizon Organic has recently been endorsed by green lifestyle expert and television host Sara Snow and now is seeing demand for its products growing, the company said.
It added that trawling for wild-caught shrimp often results in unintended by-catch and ocean floor destruction, while most conventional shrimp farming involves over-crowded ponds — which increases the need for antibiotics, preservatives and other additives.
IT added that it is working with farmers, who are stewards of the environment, and whose shrimp are certified to be hormone-, antibiotic- and preservative-free. The shrimp harvests follow closely monitored practices and include fair treatment and wages for workers. These practices are internationally certified by Naturland® of Germany, QCS® of the USA, and EcoCert® of France.
The New York Fancy Food Show, from 29 June - 1 July, in the Jacob K. Javits Center is presented by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade.
