SCOTLAND - The Scottish rural affairs and environment spokesman Richard Lochhead is to meet representatives of the Scottish Fishing Industry today (Friday) to review the work of the Fuel Task Force he established.
Speaking before the meeting, the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation Chief Executive, Bertie Armstrong said: "We are agreed on the direction of travel, to make the changes necessary for the survival of a home fishing industry, with all the benefits of that.
"We need now to start the engine, with short term aid of the sort given already to our main competitors, the French and Spanish industries.
"This has been under discussion for two months and in hard practical terms, we are no further forward.
"It is time for action and I hope that's what the Scottish Industry will hear from the Scottish Fisheries Minister."
