Conservation and Fishing Access Top Issues at Congress

PHILIPPINES - Managing Our Tuna Resource: Exploring Opportunities & Alternatives is the theme of the 10th National Tuna Congress.

This year's event will focus on issues of resource management sustainability and fishing access, raising awareness on the effects of global warming and climate change, exploring the opportunities and challenges brought about by the market trends, including windows of opportunities for aquaculture and tuna farming.

By holding this annual event, the congress has brought significant milestones in areas of policy, such as the Philippines’ membership to the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission, strengthening the industry’s competitiveness, enhancing the capabilities of the industry players for good handling and manufacturing practices and the passage of significant competitiveness policies such as the handline fishing law.

All of these key accomplishments have greatly contributed towards the achievement of a sustainable and competitive Philippine tuna industry, the fishing federation says.

The SOCSKSARGEN Federation of Fishing and Allied Industries, Inc, will host the 10th National Tuna Congress from 3-4 September at the KCC Convention and Events Center, KCC Mall of Gensan, J. Catolico Sr. Avenue, General Santos City.
