DAHS VirkonŽ S for Aquaculture - the disinfectant of choice for dive suits
By DuPont Animal Health Solutions - Independent research shows DAHS VirkonŽ S for Aquaculture as the disinfectant of choice for dive suits.
The intensification of fish production provides an ideal environment in which disease-causing organisms can flourish and cause serious damage to productivity. As the spread of an infection can be rapid, farmers must establish and maintain a high level of biosecurity against pathogens, particularly in relation to movements of personnel and equipment between sites or blocks of cages.
In this respect, teams of scuba-divers, used for removing mortalities and maintaining cages, are a particular risk. The diving suits and mort bags are a serious source of contamination transfer. Research on comparative virucidal activity of different disinfectants, in several independent research institutes, has shown that DAHS Virkon® S for Aquaculture is particularly suited to disinfecting items such as diving suits.
New and emerging fish diseases are commonly caused by viruses, with key examples being ISA, IPN, Pancreas Disease, Sleeping Disease and most recently Heart & Skeletal Muscle Inflammation (HSMI) disease. It, therefore, makes sense to use DAHS Virkon® S for Aquaculture, the most proven veterinary disinfectant in the world, with particularly strong activity against viruses for dive-suit disinfection.
