Trade Threats from Tuna Baron
Centrex Metals Limited is hoping to submit final plans to operate an iron ore mine 140km north of Port Lincoln by the end of this month, reports The Australian news agency. Its plans include shipping the ore from the aquaculture hub, angering residents and the booming tuna industry.

"What's happening in Port Lincoln is bloody ludicrous," Hagen Stehr told The Australian. "For 50 years we've tried to build a name for tuna in Port Lincoln. If they found out that we were operating next to a mining company exporting iron ore, it would have dire consequences."
Mr Stehr, who is estimated to be worth $275 million, exports tuna to Europe, China, Russia and the US through his Clean Seas operation.
He said transporting and shipping iron ore via the wharf would result in dust emissions, which would create algal blooms lethal to the aquaculture industry.
He says his only option would be to relocate Clean Seas.
