Opposition Holds Fire on Aquaculture Policies

NEW ZEALAND - The New Zealand National Party has said it will not be announcing its aquaculture policies until nearer the time of the general election.

However, the party has promised that it will reform the Resource Management Act and aquaculture marine legislation soon after the election if the party gains control.

The party leader, Phil Heatley, speaking at the Aquaculture New Zealand conference on Friday, said he wanted to wait until the prime minister Helen Clark announced the election date, before issuing specific policies, according to a report in the Malborough Express.

Mr Heatley said the Resource Management Act would be reformed the aquaculture in mind according to the report.
