Vietnamese Seafood Could Find New Home in Russia
Vietnam now ranks fourth in the top seafood suppliers to Russia, behind Norway, China and Denmark. Pangasius (tra, basa) is the key seafood export items of the country. Last year, tra and basa export accounted for 9.2% of total seafood export values, with 90 million U.S. dollars.
In order to push up seafood export revenue, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has warned local exporters to improve the quality of products for export. In a bilateral cooperation program between Vietnam and Russia’s agencies in food safety control, respectively NAFIQAVED and VPSS, the Russian counterpart is scheduled to start its investigation in Vietnam’s seafood production plants by middle of this month.
Vasep will participate in Moscow World Food Fair in September 23-26 which will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to meet new customers around the world and to learn more about Russian seafood market.
As usual, Vasep will lead a delegation of many local seafood enterprises to participate in this event, which will be located in ZAO EXPO CENTER, Moscow. In first 7 monhts of 2008, seafood export revenue to Russia reached 90 million U.S. dollars, increased by 37% over the same period last year.
