Mr Papa Joe, Special Assistant to the Minister of Fisheries, said for the past three years the country's marine fishing yielded 450 tonnes instead of the expected 850 tonnes and attributed the drop to bad weather conditions and bad behaviour of some residents who live by the sea side, reports GhanaWeb.
He was speaking at the close of a 10-day training workshop for 25 farmers on how to embark on integrated fish farming in the Ejisu-Juaben District at the weekend. The training, which was organised by the Ministry of Fisheries in collaboration with Kuma Farms Complex, was attended by farmers selected from Ashanti, Greater Accra, Volta, Northern and Eastern regions and some students.
According to GhanaWeb, Mr Joe said the ministry had teamed up with some farm complexes to provide training on how to rear fish at the small-scale level. He said the ministry was prepared to offer loan facilities to the farmers to enable them expand.
