Dr Nigel Preston of the CSIRO and one of Australia’s leading experts on tiger prawns is expecting output double as a result, and that they will operate trial programs on a variety of Queensland prawn farms, reports Growfish.
"(We'll be) looking at the phenotype, that's what you can see in the paddock or in the pond, so that the farmers will be selecting the biggest, the brightest, the best growing," he was reported as saying.
"What we're using is the genotyping technology to make sure that in doing that, we also have a reasonable spread of genetic diversity.
