Industry Welcomes FSA Listeria Survey

SCOTLAND, UK - Scottish Salmon have welcomed the Food Standards Agency (FSA) survey on listeria in smoked fish.

Ian Michie, Chair of the FDF Salmon Processors and Smokers Group, said: “As the FSA’s comprehensive study reveals, levels of Listeria in smoked fish are rare. This comes as no surprise to our members. Food safety is our sector’s number one priority and members of FDF’s Salmon Processors and Smokers Group (SPSG) have been working hard over many years to ensure the right production controls are in place.

“Members of the SPSG operate to the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness in their factories. They monitor the raw material, process and product for Listeria and take appropriate preventative actions to minimise the risk of it occurring in smoked fish. Companies regularly review their production operations and follow industry best practice, which is fully communicated across the sector.”
