Abagold in Exporter of the Year Final
SOUTH AFRICA - Abagold Limited, a leading land-based aquaculture company based in Hermanus in South Africa, is one of the finalists in the Cape Town Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Exporter of the year. The company is involved in the hatching, rearing, processing and exporting of South African abalone (perlemoen).
Over the past 13 years Abagold has built a brand name that it says its clients associate with quality and consistency.
"To our 230 employees this brand means a challenging but rewarding work environment and to our shareholders, growth and prosperity," the company says.
The company has grown organically to become a market leader in canned and dried abalone, producing and exporting in excess of 220 tonnes of product under its own brand in the Far East’s premium seafood market annually.
Abagold was converted to a public company in 2008 and started trading its shares on an “over-the-counter” platform on its website - a first for the industry.
Its future has been carefully mapped to include ambitious expansion plans through integrated aquaculture with seaweed as well as a community upliftment project.
