NDP in Favour of Closed Containment Fish Farms

CANADA - Canada's National Democratic Party (NDP) Leader Carole James has spoken out in support for the development and implementation of Closed Containment for the Fish Farm industry in BC.

At the 40th Annual General Assembly of the Union of BC Indian Chiefs in Vancouver, Carole James was asked where the NDP stood on the year old Special Legislative Committees Report on Sustainable Aquaculture recommendations.

"I am very pleased to know that the NDP, if elected, would implement the recommendations of the Special Legislative Committee Report, in particular the closed containment aspects" says Chief Bob Chamberlin of the Kwicksutaineuk Ah-kwa-mish First Nation.

"This is a clear message from the NDP whereas the BC Liberals appear comfortable to continue the delay, deny and distract approach to dealing with impacts of the Aquaculture Industry on the environment and wild salmon. British Columbians who share concerns for environmental impacts and sustainability of wild salmon need to ensure aquaculture becomes a primary issue for the pending Provincial Election" concluded Chief Chamberlin.
