Mauritius Fishing Port Gets Kuwait Funding

According to the African Press Agency (APA), vice prime minister and minister of tourism, Xavier Luc Duval said in the capital, Port Louis, that the monument is being erected in memory of 17 fishermen and members of the crew of the King Fish II and V who disappeared near the Mauritian outer dependency of St Brandon during the passage of cyclone Gamede on the 23rd February 2007.

The stele which is an old ship anchor has the names of all the fishermen engraved on it.

Addressing the parents and friends of the missing fishermen, Duval said that he hoped that flowers will be laid on the monument each 1st May, reports the APA.

Speaking on the development of the fishing industry, Duval indicated that the part of the Kuwaiti funds will be used to build bigger fishing vessels which will allow fishermen to fish out of the lagoons.

Duval added that with the development of aquaculture, those fishermen who do not wish to fish in the sea will be able to find jobs in this new fishing sector.
