A List of Sustainable Seafood in Chesapeake Bay.

US - Flounder is out. Farmed catfish is in. Chesapeake Bay crabs are OK.

According to the Hampton Roads, hese are but three recommendations in a new “Sensible Seafood” program, unveiled Tuesday, that offers guidance to Virginians who want a

little environmental responsibility with their fish or shellfish.

Sponsored by the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and designed by a panel of scientists and educators, the advisory program is highlighted by a list of seafood products that fall under one of three categories: “best choices,” “good alternatives” and “avoid.”

Hampton Roads reports that Flounder is among those to avoid, according to the list, along with Chilean sea bass, bluefin tuna, imported swordfish, shark and Atlantic cod.

Among the best choices: farm-raised clams, oysters and mussels, rockfish, wild Alaska salmon, and farmed rainbow trout, tilapia and crayfish.
