SUMATRA, INDONESIA - Scientists from Indonesia and USA have described a new species of miniature bagrid catfish from southern Sumatra.
Naming the new species Nanobagrus torquatus in the latest issue of the Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, Alfred Thomson and coauthors distinguish it from congeners in having a dark brown body with a single distinct yellow/cream band around the body just behind the head, reports PracticalFishkeeping.
The new species is named for this character (torquatus is Latin for “decorated with a necklace or collar”) and is known from the Musi River drainage.
