CANADA - The Canadian Minister of Fisheries has spoken out on the struggling lobster industry, announcing plans to reverse the downward trend.
Lobster prices are unusually low in Canada this year as the economy has had a severe negative effect on all seafood markets and prices, starting with lobster.
The price of lobster is determined by domestic and international markets. The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans says he has committed to identify options and actions that would help meet these challenges.
"Together with the provinces, industry and harvesters, we will work together to help coastal communities through these challenging times", he said.
