The project was inaugurated by the chief minister VS Achuthanandan at Paravoor in Ernakulam District on Saturday.
According to Kerala On-line, the programme will be implemented in 14 districts of the state over the period for three years.
A total of 700 grama panchayats will actively participate in the programme and 10,000 ha of inland water areas are targeted to bring under fish/prawn/shrimp culture.
The project aims to raise production from 75,000 tonnes to 200,000 tonnes and also help boost export possibilities from the rural areas.
The project is costing Rs710 million with Rs240 million as a state subsidy.
