Toxic Fish Tank to be Removed from Montana

"We consider it a high priority because of its proximity to the creek," said Bob Snyder, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks' hatchery bureau chief.

According to GreatFallsTribune, the tank is buried at the Big Springs Trout Hatchery on a former island near Big Spring.

Big Spring is the source of Big Spring Creek, which runs through Lewistown, and also the city's water supply, Holly Phelps, the city's interim public works director, told the tribune. The spring's origin is the Madison aquifer.

No evidence has turned up showing that PCBs from the old fish tank have reached the city's water supply, said Richard Misplon, a project manager for FWP's Design and Construction Bureau.
