Print This Page Irish Minister Welcomes New Organic Certifier
IRELAND - Mr Trevor Sargent TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, today welcomed the approval of Institute of Marketecology (IMO) as a new organic certification body operating in Ireland.
IMO is an internationally recognised certifier and has been working in Ireland for a number of years certifying aquaculture products as organic to the private Naturland standard.
“With the inclusion of aquaculture within the scope of the new Organic Regulation from 1 January 2009, there should be opportunities to expand the organic aquaculture sector and IMO's approval is therefore timely,” Minister Sargent said.
The addition of IMO brings to three the number of approved organic certification bodies in Ireland. As part of an agreement with the Department, they will become members of the Organic Forum along with Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association (IOFGA) and Organic Trust Ltd.
