Government to back catfish farming for export

THAILAND - Farming of a giant catfish species known as pangasius will be actively promoted due to rising overseas demand and attractive prices for the freshwater fish, according to Yuthasak Supasorn, deputy executive director of the Thailand National Food Institute.

The fish are currently raised in Mukdahan and Ubon Ratchathani provinces situated near the Mekong River.
