Print This Page EU Provides Relief for ISA Struck Shetlands
SCOTLAND, UK - Shetland's fishing and aquaculture industry received a boost yesterday with the announcement that two local firms will benefit from a total of £1,158,000 in grants from the European Fisheries Fund.
Seventeen jobs are to be created on the islands as result of the funding packages for the companies, Lerwick Fish Traders and Rossyew, reported the Scotsman earlier today.
Announcing the grants on a visit to Lerwick, Mike Russell, the environment minister, said: "The recent discovery of infectious salmon anaemia (ISA] in the area has seen the local aquaculture industry experience a difficult few weeks."
