Print This Page Antidumping Taxes on Vietnamese Catfish Retained
VIET NAM - The US Department of Commerce (DoC) has decided to maintain antidumping taxes on Vietnamese frozen catfish products, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers said on its website Wednesday.
The DoC said after conducting an annual review that removing the duties would cause a disadvantage to US catfish farmers, according to the association’s statement.
Catfish breeders in the world’s largest economy continue to allege that Vietnamese pangasius (tra and basa catfish) producers are selling their products at lower-than-market prices, the statement said.
But the association, known as VASEP, had said earlier the US International Trade Commission would consider at a hearing in Washington on May 6 if the abolition of the antidumping duties would hurt the local catfish industry.
The duties have been imposed by the DoC on Vietnamese frozen catfish exports since August 2003.
